The Special Senate Committee on the Arctic met this day at 1:01 p.m., in room B30, Senate of Canada Building, the deputy chair, the Honourable Patricia Bovey, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Anderson and Bovey (2).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Griffin (1).

In attendance: Sara Fryer and Thai Nguyen, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, the committee continued its study of the significant and rapid changes to the Arctic, and impacts on original inhabitants. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

WITNESSES:

As an individual:

Ken Coates, Professor and Canada Research Chair in Regional Innovation, School of Public Policy, University of Saskatchewan.

Arctic 360:

Jessica Shadian, CEO and Founder.

Qikiqtani Inuit Association:

Stephen Williamson Bathory, Executive Advisor (by video conference).

The deputy chair made a statement.

Mr. Coates and Ms. Shadian made statements and answered questions.

At 1:59 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 2:02 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Williamson Bathory made a statement and answered questions.

At 2:49 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the deputy chair.
