The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day at 10:39 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable David Tkachuk, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Beyak, Campbell, Enverga, Greene, Maltais, Massicotte, Ringuette, Smith (Saurel), Tannas and Tkachuk (11).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Day (1).
In attendance: Dylan Gowans and Brett Stuckey, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, the committee continued its study on the present state of the domestic and international financial system (TOPIC: The causes and effects of the recent decline in the Canadian dollar exchange rate). (For the full text of the order of reference, see Issue No. 1 of the committee proceedings.)

Hendrik Brakel, Senior Director, Economic, Financial and Tax Policy.
Canadian Federation of Independent Business:
Ted Mallett, Vice-President and Chief Economist.
Mr. Mallett and Mr. Brakel made statements and answered questions.
At 11:47 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 11:49 a.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to consider a draft agenda (future business).
At 11:51 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
