The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day at 4:17 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable David Tkachuk, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Black, Enverga, Massicotte, Moncion, Ringuette, Tannas, Tkachuk, Unger and Wallin (9).

In attendance: Adriane Yong and Olivier Leblanc-Laurendeau, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, the committee continued its study on the present state of the domestic and international financial system. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.) (Topic: Credit unions and the use of the word "banking")

Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions Canada:

Judy Cameron, Senior Director, Legislation, Approvals and Strategic Policy;

Jean-Pierre Girouard, Managing Director, Approvals and Precedents.

Canadian Bankers Association:

Darren Hannah, Vice President, Finance, Risk and Prudential Policy.

The chair made a statement.

Ms. Anderson and Ms. Cameron each made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:07 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:11 p.m., the committee resumed.
