The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day at 10:30 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Douglas Black, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Black (Alberta), Dagenais, Stewart Olsen, Tannas, Tkachuk and Wetston (6).

In attendance: Chantal Cardinal, Procedural Clerk, Committees Directorate; Adriane Yong and Brett Stuckey, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, the committee continued its study on issues and concerns pertaining to cyber security and cyber fraud. (For the complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 26.)

WITNESSES:

The Canadian Chamber of Commerce:

Scott Smith, Director, Intellectual Property and Innovation Policy.

Canadian Cyber Threat Exchange:

Robert W. Gordon, Executive Director.

MasterCard:

Ron Green, Chief Security Officer.

The chair made a statement.

Messrs. Gordon, Smith and Green each made a statement and, together, answered questions.

At 11:29 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 11:32 a.m., the committee resumed.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, the committee continued its study on the present state of the domestic and international financial system. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)

WITNESSES:

International Monetary Fund:

Cheng Hoon Lim, Assistant Director and Mission Chief for Canada, Western Hemisphere Department (by video conference);

Troy Matheson, Senior Economist (by video conference);

Kotaro Ishi, Senior Economist (by video conference).

The chair made a statement.

Ms. Lim made a statement and, together with Mr. Matheson and Mr. Ishi, answered questions.

At 12:07 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
