The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day at 10:33 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Douglas Black, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Black (Alberta), Dagenais, Frum, Marwah, Stewart Olsen, Tkachuk, Unger, Wallin and Wetston (9).

In attendance: Adriane Yong and Brett Stuckey, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, the committee continued its examination of new and emerging issues for Canadian importers and exporters in North American and global markets. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 34.)

Laura Dawson, Director, Canada Institute (by video conference).

Macdonald-Laurier Institute:

Philip Cross, Senior Fellow.

As an individual:

Lai-King Hum, Principal/Senior Lawyer, Hum Law Firm.

The chair made a statement.

Ms. Dawson and Mr. Cross each made a statement and answered questions.

At 11:34 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 11:38 a.m., the committee resumed.

The chair made a statement.

Ms. Hum made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:03 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 12:06 p.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to consider a draft agenda (future business).

At 12:28 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
