The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day at 2:29 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Dagenais, Marwah, Ringuette, Unger and Wetston (5).

In attendance: Adriane Yong and Brett Stuckey, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, the committee continued its examination of the subject matter of those elements contained in Divisions 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 12, 16 and 19 of Part 6 of Bill C- 74, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on February 27, 2018 and other measures. WITNESSES:

Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada:

Daniel Therrien, Privacy Commissioner;

Barbara Bucknell, Director, Policy, Research and Parliamentary Affairs.

The clerk informed the committee of the unavoidable absences of the chair and the deputy chair and presided over the election of an acting chair.

The Honourable Senator Marwah moved:

That the Honourable Senator Wetston be the acting chair.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

The acting chair took the chair and made a statement.

Mr. Therrien made a statement and, together with Ms. Bucknell, answered questions.

At 3:19 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
