The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met this day at 5:57 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Richard Neufeld, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Lang, MacDonald, Massicotte, Mockler, Neufeld, Patterson, Ringuette and Seidman (8).

In attendance: Maxime Fortin, Procedural Clerk; Marc LeBlanc and Sam Banks, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 10, 2016, the committee continued its study on the effects of transitioning to a low carbon economy. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 4.)

WITNESSES:

VIA Rail Canada:

Yves Desjardins-Siciliano, President and Chief Executive Officer;

Pierre Le Fèvre, Senior Advisor to CEO and Chief Executive Officer;

Bruno Riendeau, Director, Safety and Environment.

Railway Association of Canada:

Michael Bourque, President and Chief Executive Officer;

Michael Gullo, Director, Policy, Economic and Environmental Affairs.

The chair made a statement.

Messrs. Desjardins-Siciliano and Bourque each made a statement and, together with Messrs. Le Fèvre and Gullo, answered questions.

At 7:47 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
