The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs met this day at 4:16 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Bob Runciman, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Baker, P.C., Batters, Boisvenu, Boniface, Dagenais, Dupuis, Forest, Joyal, P.C., Lankin, P.C., McIntyre, Pate, Runciman and White (13).

In attendance: Julian Walker and Maxime Charron-Tousignant, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, May 8, 2017, the committee continued its examination of the subject matter of those elements contained in Divisions 10 and 17 of Part 4 of Bill C-44, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 22, 2017 and other measures. The chair made a statement.

Mr. Robertson made a statement and, together with Mr. Advokaat and Mr. Rochon, answered questions.

At 4:55 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 4:57 p.m., the committee resumed.

Ms. Brazeau made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:22 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:24 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Hynes and Mr. Yussuff each made a statement and, together with Mr. Luff, answered questions.

At 6:07 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 6:13 p.m., purusant to rule 12-16(1)d), the committee resumed in camera to consider a draft report.

At 6:21 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
