The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 9:33 a.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Larry Smith, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Ataullahjan, Cools, Marshall, Mitchell, Mockler, Pratte, Raine, Seidman and Smith (10).

In attendance: Alex Smith and Sylvain Fleury, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, the committee began its consideration of the subject-matter of all of Bill C-29, A second Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 22, 2016 and other measures.

WITNESSES:

Department of Finance Canada:

Trevor McGowan, Acting Chief, Tax Legislation Division, Tax Policy Branch;

Pierre Leblanc, Director, Personal Income Tax Division, Tax Policy Branch;

James Greene, Director, Business Income Tax Division, Tax Policy Branch.

Mr. McGowan made a statement and, together with Mr. Leblanc and Mr. Greene, answered questions.

At 11:52 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
