The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 1:03 p.m., in Salons A/B of the Westin Nova Scotian, the chair, the Honourable Percy Mockler, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Cools, Eaton, Marshall, Mockler and Neufeld (6).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Oh (1).

In attendance: Sylvain Fleury, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, the committee continued its study on the Minister of Finance's proposed changes to the Income Tax Act respecting the taxation of private corporations and the tax planning strategies involved. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 39.)

WITNESSES:

The chair made a statement.

Dr. Alexiadis, Dr. Stone and Dr. Lees each made a statement and answered questions.

At 2:12 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 2:20 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Poschmann, Mr. Schmit, Mr. Wolsey and Ms. MacNeil each made a statement and answered questions.

It was agreed that the document provided by Ms. MacNeil entitled "Proposed measures to address tax loopholes for wealthy owners of Canadian-Controlled Private Corporations'' (Canadian Labour Congress/Congrès du travail du Canada), be filed as an exhibit (Exhibit 1120-1.42/NFFN-SS-4-50 "5'').

At 3:33 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
