The Standing Senate Committee on Official languages met this day at 4:02 p.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the deputy chair, the Honourable Rose-May Poirier, presiding

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Dawson, Gagné, McIntyre, Moncion, Poirier and Smith (6).

In attendance: Marie-Ève Hudon, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; and Kalina Waltos, Legislative Clerk, Senate Committees Directorate.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, February 3, 2016, the committee continued its study on the application of the Official Languages Act and the regulations and directives made under it, within those institutions subject to the act. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)

WITNESSES:

Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages:

Raymond Théberge, Commissioner of Official Languages;

Pierre Leduc, Assistant Commissioner, Policy and Communications Branch;

Ghislaine Saikaley, Assistant Commissioner, Compliance Assurance Branch;

Pascale Giguère, General Counsel, Legal Affairs Branch.

The deputy chair made a statement.

Mr. Théberge made a presentation and, together with Ms. Saikaley, answered questions.

The Honourable Senator Gagné moved:

That the transcripts and audio recordings of in camera meetings of the Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages be destroyed by the clerk no later than the end of this parliamentary session.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

At 5:10 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
