The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 5:05 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Fabian Manning, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Eaton, Enverga, Hubley, Manning, Munson, Poirier, Raine, Sinclair, Stewart Olsen and Wallace (10).

In attendance: Odette Madore, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, February 16, 2016, the committee continued its study on issues relating to the federal government's current and evolving policy framework for managing Canada's fisheries and oceans. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 3.)

APPEARING:

The Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, P.C., M.P., Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and Canadian Coast Guard.

WITNESSES:

Fisheries and Oceans Canada:

Catherine Blewett, Deputy Minister;

Kevin Stringer, Associate Deputy Minister.

Canadian Coast Guard:

Jody Thomas, Commissioner.

The chair made a statement.

Minister LeBlanc made a statement and, together with Mr. Stringer, Ms. Thomas and Ms. Blewett, answered questions.

Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), it was agreed that the committee proceed in camera for the consideration of a draft agenda.

At 6:38 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 6:41 p.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera, to consider a draft agenda (future business).

At 6:53 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
