The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 5:04 p.m., in room B30, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Fabian Manning, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Campbell, Christmas, Cormier, Francis, Gold, Manning, McInnis, Moodie, Munson, Petitclerc, Poirier and Wells (12).

In attendance: Daniele Lafrance, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on December 11, 2018, the committee continued its consideration of Bill C-68, An Act to amend the Fisheries Act and other Acts in consequence. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 40.)

Pam Schwann, President (by video conference);

Brady Balicki, Lead, Environmental Science and Risk Assessment SHEQ, Compliance and Licensing, Cameco Corporation (by video conference).

Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi'kmaq Chiefs:

Terrance J. Paul, Chief, Co-Chair, Portfolio Lead for Fisheries;

Bruce H. Wildsmith, Legal Counsel.

The chair made a statement.

Mr. McDonald made a statement and, together with Ms. Linehan, answered questions.

Mr. Kiefer made a statement and answered questions.

At 6:17 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 6:30 p.m., the committee resumed.

Ms. Laurie-Lean made a statement and answered questions.

Ms. Schwann made a statement and, together with Mr. Balicki, answered questions.

At 7:20 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 7:42 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Paul and Mr. Wildsmith made statements and answered questions.

At 8:48 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
