The Standing Committee on Rules, Procedures and the Rights of Parliament met this day at 6:46 p.m., in room 160- S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Joan Fraser, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Batters, Carignan, P.C., Cools, Cowan, Fraser, Frum, Joyal, P.C., Martin, McInnis, Ogilvie, Plett, Seidman, Tannas, Tkachuk, Wells and White (16).
Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Ataullahjan, Baker, P.C., Beyak, Day, Dyck, Eggleton, P.C., Massicotte, McCoy, Moore, Patterson, Raine, Ringuette, Wallace and Watt (14).
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to rule 12-7(2)(c), the committee began its study on the new Senate appointment process and its possible impact.
APPEARING:
The Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, P.C., M.P., Leader of the Government;
The Honourable Maryam Monsef, P.C., M.P., Minister of Democratic Institutions.
The Ministers made statements and answered questions.
At 7:30 p.m., the Honourable Senator Plett replaced the Honourable Senator Ogilvie as a member of the committee.
At 8:06 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
