OTTAWA, Thursday, November 30, 2017

The Subcommittee on the Senate Estimates met this day at 1:05 p.m., pursuant to rule 12-13 of the Rules of the Senate, to organize the activities of the committee.

Daniel Charbonneau, Clerk of the Committee: Honourable senators, pursuant to the order of the Senate of November 7, it is my duty to preside over the election of a chair of the subcommittee. I’m prepared to take nominations to that effect.

Senator Dawson: I know she’s absent, Senator Moncion told me she was interested, and I would like to propose her.

Mr. Charbonneau: It is moved by the Honourable Senator Dawson that Senator Moncion do take the chair of this committee.

Is it your pleasure, honourable senators, to adopt the motion?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

Mr. Charbonneau: Carried.

It is also my duty as the clerk to inform you of the absence of Senator Moncion, and I’m prepared to take nominations for the nomination of an acting chair for this meeting.

Senator Tkachuk: I nominate Senator Tannas.

Mr. Charbonneau: It is moved by the Honourable Senator Tkachuk that Senator Tannas do take the chair as acting chair.

Is it your pleasure, honourable senators, to adopt the motion?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

Mr. Charbonneau: Carried.

I invite Senator Tannas to take the chair.

Senator Tkachuk: Who is now the deputy chair, right?

Mr. Charbonneau: No, that comes next.

Senator Scott Tannas (Acting Chair) in the chair.

The Acting Chair: We’re looking for the election of a deputy chair.

Senator Tkachuk: I nominate Senator Tannas.

The Acting Chair: Any other nominations? All in favour? Done.

Senator Scott Tannas (Deputy Chair) in the chair.

The Deputy Chair: We will go in camera now.
