The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day at 9:31 a.m., in room 257, East Block, the deputy chair, the Honourable Michael L. MacDonald, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boisvenu, Bovey, Cormier, Eggleton, P.C., Greene, Griffin, MacDonald, Mercer, Runciman and Saint-Germain (10).

In attendance: Jed Chong and Nicole Sweeney, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, the committee continued its examination of the regulatory and technical issues related to the deployment of connected and automated vehicles. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

WITNESSES:

Royal Canadian Mounted Police:

Chief Superintendent Eric Stubbs, Director General, National Criminal Operations, Contract and Aboriginal Policing.

Public Safety Canada:

Colleen Merchant, Director General, National Cyber Security Directorate.

Communications Security Establishment:

Scott Jones, Deputy Chief, IT Security;

Richard Pierson, Director General, Cyber Defence, IT Security.

The deputy chair made a statement.

Mr. Stubbs and Ms. Merchant made statements and answered questions.

At 9:43 a.m., the Honourable Senator Mercer took the chair.

At 9:59 a.m., the deputy chair, the Honourable Senator MacDonald, resumed the chair.

At 10:25 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:32 a.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Jones made a statement and, together with Mr. Pierson, answered questions.

At 11:16 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
