The Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs of the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day at 12:06 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Mobina S. B. Jaffer, presiding.

Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable Senators Boniface, Dagenais, Jaffer, Lang, Meredith, Saint- Germain and White (7).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Wallin (1).

In attendance: Havi Echenberg, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on February 1, 2016, the subcommittee continued its study on the services and benefits provided to members of the Canadian Forces; to veterans; to members and former members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and their families. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the subcommittee, Issue No. 2.)

WITNESSES:

Veterans Affairs Canada:

Kim Andrews, Acting Director General, Service Delivery and Program Management;

Faith McIntyre, Director General, Policy and Research Division.

The chair made a statement.

Ms. McIntyre and Ms. Andrews made statements and answered questions.

At 1:02 p.m., the subcommittee suspended.

At 1:06 p.m., the subcommittee, pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), resumed in camera for the consideration of a draft agenda (future business).

It was agreed:

That the Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs request that the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence seek the authorization of the Senate to examine and report on issues relating to creating a defined, professional and consistent system for veterans as they leave the Canadian Armed Forces; and

That the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence then delegate this study to the Subcomittee on Veterans Affairs.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

At 1:30 p.m., the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the chair.
