The Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs of the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day at 12 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Mobina S.B. Jaffer, presiding.

Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable Senators Boniface, Jaffer, Lang, Saint-Germain and White (5).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Maltais and Wallin (2).

In attendance: Havi Echenberg, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, the subcommittee continued its study on issues relating to creating a defined, professional and consistent system for veterans as they leave the Canadian Armed Forces. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the subcommittee, Issue No. 6.)

WITNESSES:

Veterans Ombudsman:

Guy Parent, Ombudsman;

Sharon Squire, Deputy Veterans Ombudsman and Executive Director of Operations.

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Parent made a statement and, together with Ms. Squire, answered questions.

At 12:02 p.m., the subcommittee suspended.

At 12:05 p.m., the subcommittee resumed.

At 1:18 p.m., the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the chair.
