OTTAWA, Monday, June 29, 2020


Pursuant to the order of the Senate of April 11, 2020, the Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met in camera this day, by videoconference at 11:35 a.m. [ET], the chair, the Honourable Chantal Petitclerc, presiding. This meeting is considered to have taken place in the parliamentary precinct.

Members of the committee present by videoconference: The Honourable Senators Dasko, Griffin, Kutcher, Mégie, Moodie, Munson, Omidvar, Pate, Petitclerc, Poirier and Seidman (11).

Other senator present by videoconference: The Honourable Senator LaBoucane-Benson (1).

Participating in the meeting: Keli Hogan, Vincent Labrosse and Joëlle Nadeau, Procedural Clerks, Committees Directorate; Laura Munn-Rivard and Sonya Norris, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Ben Silverman, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Saturday, April 11, 2020, the committee continued its study on the government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee considered a draft report in camera.

At 2:02 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 3:32 p.m., the committee resumed.

After debate, it was agreed:

That the draft report, as amended, be adopted; and that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be empowered to approve the final version of the report, taking into consideration this meeting’s discussions and the previous, and with any necessary editorial, grammatical and translation changes required;

That the subcommittee be empowered to make decisions on behalf of the committee to publicize the report with the support of the Senate Communications Directorate, including determining the appropriate timing for tabling the report; and

That the chair be authorized to table the report with the Clerk of the Senate.

At 5:32 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
