Pursuant to the order of the Senate of March 30, 2021, the Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day by videoconference at 6:31 p.m. [ET], the chair, the Honourable Michael L. MacDonald, presiding. This meeting is considered to have taken place in the parliamentary precinct.

Members of the committee present by videoconference: The Honourable Senators Boisvenu, Cormier, Dasko, Dawson, Forest-Niesing, Griffin, MacDonald, Manning, Miville-Dechêne, Simons, White and Woo (12).

Other senator present by videoconference: The Honourable Senator Carignan, P.C. (1).

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, the committee continued its examination of Bill S-225, An Act to amend the Copyright Act (remuneration for journalistic works).

Dr. Geist, Mr. Irving and Mr. Chan each made a statement and answered questions.

At 7:01 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 7:04 p.m., the committee resumed.

At 7:35 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 7:38 p.m., the committee, pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), resumed in camera to consider a draft agenda (future business).

It was agreed that the clerk of the committee, together with the chair, prepare a motion in the event that Bill C-10 is referred to the committee which would seek permission of the Senate for the committee to meet during the week of September 13, 2021, even though the Senate may then be adjourned.

At 8:01 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
