The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Commerce and the Economy met in camera this day at 11:30 a.m., in room B30, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Pamela Wallin, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Deacon (Nova Scotia), Loffreda, Massicotte, Moncion, Ringuette, Smith and Wallin (8).

Participating in the meeting: Andrea Mugny, Procedural Clerk, Committees Directorate; Edison Roy-César, Mehrab Kiarsi and Adriane Yong, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, December 16, 2021, the committee continued its study of matters relating to banking, trade and commerce generally.

Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee met in camera to discuss a draft report.

It was agreed that each committee member be allowed to have one staff member present during the in camera meeting.

It was agreed that the committee allow the transcription of today’s in camera meeting, that a copy be kept with the clerk of the committee for consultation by committee members and/or staff; and that the transcription be destroyed by the clerk when authorized to do so by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, but no later than the end of this parliamentary session.

It was agreed that the draft report, as amended, be adopted, and that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be empowered to approve the final version of the report taking into consideration this meeting’s discussions, and with any necessary editorial, grammatical and translation changes required.

It was agreed that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be empowered to make decisions on behalf of the committee to publicize the report with the support of the Senate Communications Directorate, including determining the appropriate timing for the tabling of the report.

It was agreed that the chair seek permission to deposit the report with the Clerk of the Senate if the Senate is not then sitting.

At 12:11 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
