The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met this day at 9 a.m., in room B30, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Rosa Galvez, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Arnot, Audette, Batters, Galvez, Massicotte, McCallum, Miville-Dechêne, Sorensen and Verner, P.C. (9).

Participating in the meeting: Sam Banks and Jesse Good, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 24, 2022, the committee continued its study on emerging issues related to the committee’s mandate. (Topic: Climate Change: Canadian Oil & Gas Industry)

James McKenzie, Principal.

Cal Martin, Mayor.

Rural Municipality of Hart Butte:

Craig Eger, Reeve.

As an individual:

Greg Poelzer, Professor, University of Saskatchewan (by videoconference).

Cal Martin, Craig Eger, Sean H. Wallace, Jerry V. DeMarco and Greg Poelzer each made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:19 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:24 a.m., the committee resumed.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 24, 2022, the committee continued its study on emerging issues related to the committee’s mandate.
