The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 6:52 p.m., in room W110, 1 Wellington St., the chair, the Honourable Claude Carignan, P.C., presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Carignan, P.C., Cormier, Dalphond, Forest, Gignac, LaBoucane-Benson, Loffreda, MacAdam, Marshall, Pate, Ross and Smith (12).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senator Fridhandler (1).

Participating in the meeting: Shaowei Pu and Sylvain Fleury, Analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, the committee continued its examination of the practice of including non-financial matters in bills implementing provisions of budgets and economic statements.

WITNESS:

Charles Robert, former Clerk of the Senate and former Clerk of the House of Commons.

Charles Robert made a statement and answered questions.

At 8:21 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
