The Special Committee on the Anti-terrorism Act met at 10:34 a.m., this day, in room 160-S, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Joyce Fairbairn, P.C., presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Austin, P.C., Day, Fairbairn, P.C., Fraser, Jaffer, Joyal, P.C., Lynch-Staunton and Stratton (9).
Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Losier-Cool and Prud'homme, P.C. (2).
In attendance: Benjamin Dolin and Jennifer Wispinski, Analysts, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, December 13, 2004, the committee met to undertake a comprehensive review of the provisions and operation of the Anti-terrorism Act (S.C. 2001, c.41). At 3:00 p.m., the committee proceeded to the consideration of a draft budget.
It was agreed that a covering letter accompany the budgetary submission advising the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration that a second budgetary submission will be made concerning travel within Canada for public hearing.
It was moved by the Honourable Senator Joyal, P.C., that the following budget submission be adopted:
Professional and Other Services $ 53,500
Transportation and Communications $ 70,032
All Other Expenditures $ 6,160
Total $ 129,692
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
At 3:30 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
