The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples has the honour to present its

EIGHTEENTH REPORT

Your committee, which was authorized by the Senate on Tuesday, February 2, 2016, to study the federal government’s constitutional, treaty, political and legal responsibilities to First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples, respectfully requests funds for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2020, and requests, for the purpose of such study, that it be empowered to engage the services of such counsel, technical, clerical and other personnel as may be necessary.

Pursuant to Chapter 3:06, section 2(1)(c) of the Senate Administrative Rules, the budget submitted to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration and the report thereon of that committee are appended to this report.

The Honourable Senator Mercer moved, for the Honourable Senator Dyck, seconded by the Honourable Senator Fraser:

That, notwithstanding the order of the Senate adopted on Tuesday, February 2, 2016, the date for the final report of the Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples in relation to its study of the federal government’s constitutional, treaty, political and legal responsibilities to First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples and on other matters generally relating to the Aboriginal peoples of Canada be extended from December 31, 2017 to December 31, 2018.

The Honourable Senator Lovelace Nicholas moved, for the Honourable Senator Dyck, seconded by the Honourable Senator Gold:

That, notwithstanding the order of the Senate adopted on Friday, December 8, 2017, the date for the final report of the Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples in relation to its study on the federal government’s constitutional, treaty, political and legal responsibilities to First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples and on other matters generally relating to the Aboriginal peoples of Canada be extended from December 31, 2018 to September 30, 2019.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
