The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs has the honour to table its

SIXTH REPORT

Your committee, which was authorized to examine the subject matter of those elements contained in Divisions 26, 27 and 37 of Part 4 of Bill C-30, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on April 19, 2021, and other measures, has, in obedience to the order of reference of Tuesday, May 4, 2021, examined the said subject-matter and now reports as follows:

Division 26 of Part 4 of Bill C-30 amends the Judges Act; Division 27 of Part 4 amends the Judges Act, Federal Courts Act and the Tax Court of Canada Act; and Division 37 of Part 4 amends the Canada Elections Act.

The committee held four hours of meetings on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, and heard testimony from: the Honourable David Lametti, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada; the Honourable Dominic Leblanc, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and President of the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada; Stéphane Perrault, Chief Electoral Officer of Canada; Yves Côté, Commissioner of Canada Elections; Marc Giroux, Commissioner for Federal Judicial Affairs; officials from the Department of Justice Canada; officials from the Privy Council Office; and the Canadian Constitution Foundation.
