While senators’ duties are mainly as legislators within Parliament, their work also takes them far beyond. Learn more about some of their activities.

Monday, February 11 – As part of the SENgage program, Senator Pierre Dalphond meets with 80 students from Vanguard High School in Quebec who were curious to learn about the Senate.

Wednesday, February 13 – Senator David Wells visits Grade 9 students from Macdonald Drive Junior High School in Newfoundland and Labrador as part of the SENgage program. The group discussed politics, policy and governance.

Thursday, February 28 –  To celebrate Black History Month, senators Wanda Thomas Bernard, Marie-Françoise Mégie and Rosemary Moodie invited an enthusiastic group of young leaders to discuss issues facing the black community in Canada.

Friday, March 1 – Senator Yonah Martin speaks at an event hosted by the Korean Canadian Cultural Association marking the 100th Anniversary of Korea's Independence Movement Day. Senator Martin was joined by members of the Korean community to celebrate this historic occasion.

Wednesday, March 6 – Senator Yonah Martin is joined by members of the Bulgarian-Canadian community of British Columbia to mark Bulgarian Liberation Day and raise the Bulgarian flag in New Westminster, British Columbia.

Thursday, March 7 – To celebrate International Women’s Day, Senator Marilou McPhedran participates in a panel discussion at the Canadian Forces College in Toronto. Senator McPhedran was joined by Melinda Mansour from the Centre for National Security Studies at National Defence, Michelle Edwards of Agnico Eagle Mines, and Carla Arthur of WestJet.

Thursday, March 7 – Senator Raymonde Saint-Germain meets with immigrants and members of the Regroupement interculturel de Drummondville (RID), an organization that helps new Canadians integrate and succeed in Canada.

Thursday, March 7 – Senator Julie Miville-Dechêne is accompanied by Canadian historian Guy Berthiaume, the Librarian and Archivist of Canada, and Senior Archivist Christine Barrass, during a tour of the Library and Archives Canada Preservation Centre in the National Capital Region.

Thursday, March 7 and Friday, March 8 – Senator Ratna Omidvar joins students from around the world at Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts, where she  participated in an international symposium called “Migration in a Turbulent World”.
