He spoke about the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry’s study on soil health and the importance of research and innovation in the sector.
Monday, March 6, 2023 – Senator Rob Black virtually attends Mrs. Webb’s Grade 10 civics class at Huntsville High School in Huntsville, Ontario, to discuss the work of the Senate and his role as a senator.
Tuesday March 14, 2023 – Senator Percy E. Downe, sitting, visits the NuWelCom office in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. The company runs a made-in-Atlantic Canada app that helps new immigrants better integrate and participate in their community. Senator Downe met with co-CEO Khalid Shami, third from right, and with new immigrants from Peru, Colombia and Ecuador, who now live on Prince Edward Island.
Wednesday, March 15, 2023 – Senator Paula Simons meets virtually with Grade 9 students at J.T. Foster High School in Nanton, Alberta. As part of this visit organized by SENgage, she talked about her role, work and personal interests as a senator and answered students’ questions.
Wednesday, March 15, 2023 – Senator Clément Gignac speaks to students involved in the University of Ottawa’s Model Parliament about his role as co-chair of the Canada-Belgium Parliamentary Friendship Group and the importance of bilateral collaboration. Participants simulated diplomatic discussions with counterparts in Brussels, Belgium, as part of their Model Parliament.
Friday, March 17, 2023 – Senator Paula Simons meets virtually with students at Lakeshore School in Calgary, Alberta. As part of the visit organized by SENgage, she talked about her path to the Red Chamber and her work as a senator and participated in a question-and-answer period.
Monday, March 20, 2023 – Senator Amina Gerba participates in a fireside chat with a budding student journalist at Collège Saint-Joseph de Hull in Gatineau, Quebec. During the event coordinated by SENgage, the senator spoke about her role in Canada’s Upper Chamber and encouraged the 300 students in the audience to believe in themselves, follow their passions and push themselves outside their comfort zones.

The panellists included: Yazmine Laroche, president of the Disability Screen Office; Senator Petitclerc; Jérôme Bergeron, CBC journalist and news anchor; Benveet (Bean) Gill, star and consulting producer of television series Push; Sean Towgood, author and creator of TV comedy series You’re My Hero; Isabella Federigi, vice-president of content development and programming at AMI-télé; and Kéven Breton, CBC sports journalist and host of Ça me regarde.

The senator met with youth and community members to talk about his path to the Senate and the importance of public service. He also discussed issues relevant to New Brunswick, including Indigenous fisheries, and his work on the Senate Subcommittee on Diversity.
Monday, March 27, 2023 – In her capacity as co-chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group for a Free Iran, Senator Ratna Omidvar, fourth from right, co-hosted a meeting with parliamentarians and members of the Alliance for Democracy and Freedom in Iran (ADFI). During the event, participants discussed a way forward to creating a secular and democratic Iran. The firefighters visited the Senate of Canada Building in Ottawa, Ontario, with Senator Deacon and member of Parliament for Waterloo, Bardish Chagger, fourth from right. They also met with the Usher of the Black Rod, J. Greg Peters, centre, and learned about the Senate’s history and the traditions behind the Black Rod.
