The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal People, met at 10:03 a.m., this day, in Room 172-E, Centre Block, the Honourable Raynell Andreychuk, Deputy Chair presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Anderson, Andreychuk, Beaudoin, Johnson, Pearson, Taylor, Tkachuk, Twinn and Watt. (9)

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Cogger.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jill Wherrett.

WITNESSES:

From the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples:

René Dussault, Co-Chair

Georges Erasmus, Co-Chair;

The committee undertook consideration of its Order of Reference dated April 24, 1996, regarding such issues as may arise from time to time relating to the Aboriginal Peoples of Canada.

Mr. Dussault and Mr. Erasmus made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:01 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
