The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day at 10:05 a.m. in room 505, Victoria Building, the Chairman, the Honourable Michael Kirby, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Hervieux-Payette, P.C., Kelleher, P.C., Kenny, Kirby, Kolber, Meighen and St. Germain, P.C. (7)
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament, Mr. Gerald Goldstein, Director, Economics Division.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Mr. Robert Main, Director, Regulatory Affairs and Standards Policy, Corporate Governance Branch, Industry and Science Policy Sector; and
Mr. Richard Johnston, Legal Counsel, Commercial Law Division, Legal Services.
From the Standards Council of Canada:
Mr. Michael B. McSweeney, Executive Director and CEO.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on June 20, 1996, the committee considered Bill C-4, An Act to amend the Standards Council of Canada Act.
Mr. Main made an opening statement and then, along with Mr. McSweeney, answered questions.
It was agreed, -- THAT Bill C-4 be adopted and reported without amendment to the Senate.
At 10:55 a.m. the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
