The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day at 11:05 a.m. in room 505, Victoria Building, the Chairman, the Honourable Michael Kirby, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Angus, Austin, P.C., Hervieux-Payette, P.C., Kelleher, P.C., Kenny, Kirby, Oliver and Stewart (8).
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament, Mr. Gerald Goldstein, Director, Economics Division.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, April 23, 1997, the committee proceeded to study Bill C-92, An Act to amend the Income Tax Act, the Income Tax Application Rules and another Act related to the Income Tax Act.
Mr. Dodge made an opening statement and then, along with Messrs Jewett, Farber and Horner, answered questions.
It was agreed, - THAT Bill C-92 be adopted and reported to the Senate without amendment.
It was moved, - THAT the letter from Mr. Barry Campbell, M.P. to Senator Jack Austin on foreign reporting rules (see Appendix 5900-B1/C-92, 26 "1"); a brief presented by Ms Elisabeth Beattie on the taxation of child support payments (see Appendix 5900-B1/C-92, 26 "2") and a letter from Mr. Len Farber, Director General, Tax Legislation Division, Depatment of Finance to Ms Elisabeth Beattie on the same subject (see Appendix 5900-B1/C-92, 26 "3"), be printed as appendices to this day's Minutes of Proceedings.
At 1:40 p.m. the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
