The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met at 11:15 a.m. this day, in Room 356-S, the Chairman, the Honourable Senator Tkachuk, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: The Honourable Senators Tkachuk, Bolduc, Cools, De Bané, Kelly, Maheu, Poulin and Rizzuto (8).

In attendance from the Parliamentary Centre: Dr. Edward J.D. Ketchum, Director of Research.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

WITNESSES:

From the Treasury Board:

David Miller, Assistant Secretary, Expenditure Management Sector, Program Branch;

Jill Larose, Director, Strategic Planning and Analysis, Human Resources Branch;

Mike Joyce, Director, Estimates Division.

Pursuant to its Orders of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, March 20, 1996, resumed its examination on Main Estimates laid before Parliament for the fiscal year ending March 31, 1997.

Mr. Miller made opening statement and, with Ms Larose and Mr. Joyce, answered questions.

At 12:45 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
