The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries met at 9:30 a.m. this day, in Room 356-S, the Chairman the Honourable Senator Comeau, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Comeau, Doody, Landry, Marchand, Petten, Robertson, Rossiter and Stewart (8).

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Claude Emery, Research Officer, Research Branch.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

WITNESS:

From the Fisheries Council of Canada:

Ronald W. Bulmer, President.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 13, 1997, the Committee resumed its examination of the questions of privatization and quota licensing in Canada's fisheries.

Mr. Bulmer made an opening remarks and answered questions.

The Honourable Senator Stewart moved that the proposed budget of the Committee with respect to its special study, (questions of privatization and quota licensing in Canada's fisheries), be adopted.

The question being put on the motion, it was agreed.

At 11:15 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
