The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples, met at 9:07 a.m., this day, in Room 160-S, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Watt, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Andreychuk, Austin, P.C., Chalifoux, Gill, Mahovlich, Pearson, St. Germain, P.C. and Watt (9).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Wilson (1).
In attendance: Research staff of the committee: Konrad Sioui, First Nations Specialist and Larry Chartrand, Métis Specialist.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, December 9, 1997, the committee continued its examination of aboriginal self-government. ( See Issue No. 11, Tuesday, November 3, 1998 for full text of the Order of Reference.)
Mr. David Nahwegahbow made an opening statement and, together with Mr. Don Worme and Ms Helen Semaganis, answered questions.
At 10:25 a.m., Ms Leona Freed made an opening statement.
At 10:35 a.m., the Honourable Senator Pearson took the Chair.
At 10:40 a.m., Ms Rita Galloway made an opening statement and, together with Ms Freed, answered questions.
At 11:15 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 31, 1998, the committee continued its examination of Bill S-14, An Act providing for self-government by the First Nations of Canada. (See Issue No. 15, Tuesday, December 1, 1998 for full text of the Order of Reference.)
Mr. Garry Dewar and Mr. Allan Cracower made an opening statement and, together with Ms Catherine MacQuarrie and Mr. Al Broughton, answered questions.
At 6:25 p.m., the Honourable Senator Pearson took the Chair.
At 6:30 p.m., the Honourable Senator Watt resumed the Chair.
At 6:50 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
