The Subcommittee on Canada's Emergency and Disaster Preparedness met at 5:30 p.m. this day, in Room 705 Victoria, the Chairman, the Honourable Senator Stratton, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bolduc, Cook, Ferretti Barth, Fraser and Stratton (5).
In attendance: Mr. Guy Beaumier, Research Branch, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Lieutenant-General Ray Henault, Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff;
Ms Ann Marie Sahagian, Executive Director, Emergency Preparedness Canada;
Mr. André Tremblay, Director General, Readiness and Operations, Emergency Preparedness Canada;
Mr. Michael Braham, Director, Emergency Programs and Exercises, Emergency Preparedness Canada.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Standing Senate Committee on National Finance on Wednesday, March 24, 1999, the committee continued its examination of disaster and emergency readiness and preparedness in Canada and matters related to National Defence expenditures, as set out in the Main Estimates 1999-2000.
Lieutenant-General Henault and Ms Sahagian made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.
At 6:25 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
