The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met at 11:00 a.m. this day, in Room 356-S, the Chairman, the Honourable Senator Stratton, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Stratton, Bolduc, Cools, Ferretti-Barth, Forest, Lavoie-Roux, Lynch-Staunton, Robichaud ( Saint-Louis-de-Kent) and Sparrow (9).

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament, Research Branch: Guy Beaumier.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

WITNESSES:

From Transport Canada:

Ronald Sully, Assistant Deputy Minister, Programs and Divestiture Group;

Rod Dean, Director, Lease/Transferred Property;

John Cloutier, Director NSA Airport Transfers.

From the Treasury Board of Canada:

Bill Cleevely, Director, Environment Transportation Division, Economics Sector.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, October 9, 1997, the committee began the examination of the Main Estimates laid before Parliament for the fiscal year ending March 31, 1998.

Mr. Sully made an opening statement and with the other witnesses answered questions.

At 12:00 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
