The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met at 11:07 a.m. this day, in Room 356-S, the Honourable Senator Stratton, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Stratton, Bolduc, Cools, Ferretti Barth, Lavoie-Roux, Lynch-Staunton and Mahovlich (7).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Corbin (1).

In attendance: Mr. Guy Beaumier, Research Branch, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

WITNESSES:

From Treasury Board Secretariat:

Mr. Rick Neville, Assistant Secretary, Expenditure Analysis and Operations Sector;

Mr. Andrew Lieff, Director, Expenditure Operations Division.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, November 4, 1998, the committee resumed its examination of the Supplementary Estimates (B) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 1999.

Mr. Neville made an opening statement and, with Mr. Lieff, answered questions.

At a later date, officials from the Treasury Board Secretariat will provide written responses to questions asked by committee members.

It was agreed -- That the researcher prepare for approval at the committee's next meeting a report containing the comments and concerns of the committee with regards to its examination of the Supplementary Estimates (B) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 1999.

At 12:02 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
