The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs met this day at 5:21 p.m. in Room 257 of the East Block, the Chairman, the Honourable John B. Stewart, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Carney, P.C., Corbin, Di Nino, Stewart, Stollery and Whelan, P.C.. (7)

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Mr. Peter Berg, Economics Division.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

The committee resumed consideration of its order of reference pertaining to the consequences for Canada of the emerging European Monetary Union and other related trade and investment matters. (See committee proceedings of November 27, 1997, Issue No. 5).

WITNESSES:

A delegation of European parliamentarians.

The head of the delegation made a presentation and along with the delegates, took questions from committee members. In turn, committee members fielded questions from the European parliamentarians.

At 6:30 p.m., the committee met in camera to consider a draft report pursuant to its order of reference pertaining to relations between Canada and the Asia-Pacific region (See committee proceedings of October 29, 1997, Issue No. 2.)

At 6:38 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
