The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met at 9:05 a.m., this day, in room 160-S, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Austin, P.C., presiding.
Members of the Committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Austin, P.C., Chalifoux, Christensen, DeWare, Gill, Pearson, St. Germain, P.C., Sibbeston and Tkachuk (10).
Other senators present: The Honourable Senators: Grafstein, Sparrow and Wilson (3).
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Mary Hurley and Tonina Simeone; From the Senate Committees Directorate: Josée Thérien, Legislative Clerk.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 10, 2000, the committee continued its examination of Bill C-9, An Act to give effect to the Nisga'a Final Agreement. (See Issue No. 3, Wednesday, February 16, 2000 for full text of the Order of Reference)

Dr. Gosnell, Nelson Leeson, James Aldridge, Harry Nyce Sr. and Edmond Wright made an opening statement and answered questions.
The document entitled "Facts about the Nisga'a/Gitanyow Dispute" dated November 25, 1999 and prepared by the Nisga'a Tribal Council was filed as an exhibit with the clerk of the committee (Exhibit 5900 A1/C-9, 4 "1").
At 11:26 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

At 6:60 p.m., Gordon Gibson made an opening statement and answered questions.
At 7:45 p.m., Miles Richardson made an opening statement and answered questions.
At 8:20 p.m., Bradford Morse made an opening statement and answered questions.
At 8:50 p.m., Charlotte Sullivan made an opening statement and, together with Elmer Derrick, answered questions.
The Honourable Senator St. Germain made reference to a map of northern British Columbia showing various Aboriginal lands, which was tabled with the clerk of the Committee as Exhibit 5900 A1/C-9, 4 "3".
Earl Muldon and Elmer Derrick continued to answer questions.
At 9:40 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
