The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries met this day, in camera, at 7:30 p.m. in room 505, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Gerald J. Comeau, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Comeau, Cook, Johnson, Mahovlich, Perry Poirier, Robichaud, P.C. (Saint-Louis-de-Kent) and Watt (7).

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Claude Emery, Research Officer.

The committee proceeded to consider future business in camera.

At 8:45 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries met this day, in camera, at 7:17 p.m. in room 505, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Gerald J. Comeau, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Comeau, Cook, Mahovlich, Perry Poirier, Robichaud, P.C. (Saint-Louis-de-Kent) and Watt (6).

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Claude Emery, Research Officer.

Also present: Mr. Dan Boudreau

The committee proceeded to consider future business in camera.

The committee agreed that Mr. Dan Boudreau could attend the meeting.

At 7:30 p.m., the committee concluded its deliberations in camera.

The committee proceeded to consider the draft budget.

It was moved by Senator Mahovlich -- That the following budget application for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2000 be concurred in and that the Chair submit same to the Standing Senate Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration.

Professional and Other Services $ 10,000
Transportation and Communications 55,500
All Other Expenditures 3,500
TOTAL $ 69,000

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

At 7:35 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries met this day at 7:00 p.m. in room 505, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Gerald J. Comeau, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Carney, P.C., Comeau, Cook, Mahovlich, Perrault, P.C., Perry Poirier, Robertson, Robichaud, P.C. (Saint-Louis-de-Kent) and Watt (9).

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Claude Emery, Research Officer.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

WITNESS:

From the Canadian Aquaculture Industry Alliance:

Mr. David Rideout, Executive Director.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, December 7, 1999, the committee commenced its examination upon the matters relating to the fishing industry.

Mr. Rideout made a statement and answered questions.

It was agreed -- That the document entitled, "Aqua notes" presented by the Canadian Aquaculture Industry Alliance be filed as an exhibit (5900 F1-SS-1, 2 "1") with the Clerk of the Committee.

The committee proceeded to consider other business.

At 8:45 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
