The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met at 9:32 a.m., this day, in Room 705, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Lowell Murray presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Banks, Bolduc, Cools, Doody, Finnerty, Mahovlich, Murray, Stratton (8).

In attendance: Mr. Guy Beaumier, Research Officer, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

WITNESSES:

From Treasury Board of Canada:

Keith Coulter, Assistant Secretary, Planning, Performance and Reporting Sector;

Andrew M. Lieff, Director, Expenditure Operations and Estimates Division.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on March 1, 2001, the Committee undertook its examination of the expenditures set out in the Supplementary Estimates (A) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2001.

Mr. Coulter made an opening statement and with Mr. Lieff answered questions from members of the Committee.

The committee considered future business.

At 11:22 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
