The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries met this day at 7:05 p.m. in room 705, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Gerald Comeau, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Comeau, Cook, Johnson, Mahovlich, Phalen, Tunney and Watt (8).

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: Claude Emery, Research Officer.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, March 25, 2002, the committee continued its examination of matters relating to oceans and fisheries. (See Issue No. 17, April 16, 2002, for the full text of the Order of Reference.).

WITNESS:

From the Atlantic Salmon Federation:

Stephen Chase, Vice-President, Governmental Affairs.

Mr. Chase made a statement and responded to questions.

It was moved by Senator Cook, — That the document entitled Partnering to Strenghten the Wild Atlantic Salmon Habitat, Brief to the Senate Standing Committee on Fisheries presented by the Atlantic Salmon Federation be filed as an exhibit with the clerk of the committee (Exhibit 5900-1.37/F1-SS-2, 18 ``1'').

It was moved by Senator Cook, — That the document entitled: Acid Rain Kills Nova Scotia Rivers presented by the Atlantic Salmon Federation be filed as an exhibit with the clerk of the committee (Exhibit 5900-1.37/F1-SS-2, 18 ``2'').

It was moved by Senator Cook, — That the document entitled Impact of Acid Rain on Nova Scotia Salmon Rivers Post Card presented by the Atlantic Salmon Federation be filed as an exhibit with the clerk of the committee (Exhibit 5900-1.37/F1-SS-2, 18 ``3'').

At 8:45 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
