The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries met this day, incamera, at 7:05 p.m., in room 705, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Gerald Comeau, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Comeau, Cook, Gill, Jaffer, Phalen, Robertson, and Tunney (7).

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: Claude Emery, Research Officer.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, March 25, 2002, the committee continued its examination of matters relating to oceans and fisheries. (See Issue No. 17, April 16, 2002, for the full text of the Order of Reference.)

The committee considered its agenda.

At 8:05 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair.

The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries met this day at 7:06 p.m. in room 505, Victoria Building.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Gill, Jaffer, Johnson, Phalen, Robichaud, P.C., Tunney and Watt (8).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Baker (1).

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: Claude Emery, Research Officer.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, March 25, 2002, the Committee continued its examination of matters relating to oceans and fisheries (See Issue No. 17, April 16, for the full text of the Order of Reference.)

WITNESS:

From Transport Canada:

Mr. Tom Morris, Manager, Environmental Protection.

In the absence of the Chair and the Deputy Chair, the clerk of the committee presided over the election of an Acting Chair.

It was moved by the Honourable Senator Gill, — That the Honourable Senator Watt be Acting Chair for this meeting.

The question being put on the motion, it was resolved in the affirmative.

Mr. Morris made a statement and responded.

It was moved by the Honourable Senator Phalen — That the submission prepared by Tom Morris, Manager, Environmental Protection, Transport Canada], be filed as an exhibit with the clerk of the committee (Exhibit 5900- 1.37/F1-SS-2, 19 ``3'').

The question being put on the motion, it was resolved in the affirmative.

At 8:20 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
