The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries met this day at 7:06 p.m. in Room 705, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Gerald J. Comeau, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Comeau, Cook, Gill, Mahovlich and Robertson (6).

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: Claude Emery, Research Officer.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, March 25, 2002, the committee continued its examination of matters relating to oceans and fisheries. (See Issue No. 101, March 25, 2002, for the full text of the Order of Reference.)

WITNESSES:

From Environment Canada:

Robert McLean, Director, Wildlife Conservation;

Ken Harris, Chief, Habitat Conservation Division.

Mr. McLean made a statement and, with Mr. Harris, answered questions.

At 8:36 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
