The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day, in room 705, Victoria Building, at 3:36 p.m., the Chair, the Honourable Michael Kirby, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cook, Cordy, Kirby, Morin, Pépin, Robertson and Roche (7).

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Odette Madore and Howard Chodos.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 1, 2001, the Committee continued its consideration of the special study on the state of the health care system in Canada. (For complete text of Order of Reference see Proceedings of the Committee, Issue No. 2.)

WITNESSES:

From the Canadian Healthcare Association:

Ms Sharon Sholzberg-Gray, President and CEO;

Mr. Larry Odegard, CEO, Forum.

From the Canadian Association of Chain Drug Stores:

Ms Lori Turik, Vice-President, Public Affairs;

Ms Deb Saltmarche, Director of Pharmacy.

The Chair made a statement.

Ms Sholzberg-Gray made a statement. Ms Turik made a statement. The witnesses answered questions.

At 5:53 p.m. the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
