(13) [English] The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day at 9:32 a.m., in Room 256-S, Centre Block, the Deputy Chair, the Honourable J. Michael Forrestall, presiding. Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Callbeck, Finestone, P.C., Fitzpatrick, Forrestall and Spivak (6). In attendance: Terrence Thomas, Library of Parliament. Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate. Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on February 7, 2001, the committee proceeded to study Bill S-7. (See Issue No. 7, Tuesday, May 8, 2001 and Wednesday, May 9, 2001, for full text of the Order of Reference). WITNESSES: From the CBC: Michel Tremblay, Vice-President Strategy and Business Development; Steven Guiton, Senior Director, Regulatory Affairs and Strategic Planning; Edith Cody-Rice, Senior Legal Counsel. The witnesses made a presentation and answered questions. The CBC submitted a brief. At 10:40 a.m., It was agreed - That the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair. ATTEST:
OTTAWA, Wednesday, May 30, 2001 (14) The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day at 5:35 p.m., in Room 256-S, Centre Block, the Chairman, the Honourable Lise Bacon, presiding. Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Bacon, Callbeck, Christensen, Finestone, P.C., Forrestall, Gill and Spivak (8). In attendance: Martin Brennan, Special Advisor to the committee. Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate. Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on February 7, 2001, the Committee proceeded to study Bill S-7. (See Issue No. 7, Tuesday, May 8, 2001 and Wednesday, May 9, 2001, for full text of the Order of Reference). WITNESSES: Officials from Canadian Heritage: Marc O'Sullivan, Director General, Broadcasting Policy and Innovation; Larry Durr, Director, Broadcasting Distribution Services. From the CRTC: David Colville, Chairman; Allan Rosenzveig, General Counsel, Telecommunications, Legal Directorate; Jean-Pierre Blais, Executive Director, Broadcasting. The witnesses made a presentation and answered questions. Heritage Canada and the CRTC submitted a brief. It was agreed - That the committee move to clause-by-clause consideration of Bill S-7. It was agreed - That the title stand postponed. It was agreed - That clause 1 carry. It was agreed - That clause 2 carry. It was agreed - That the Title carry. It was agreed - That the Bill carry.
