Proceedings of the Standing Committee on
Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration

Issue 5 - Evidence for October 23, 2003

OTTAWA, Thursday, October 23, 2003

The Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration met this day at 9:05 a.m. to consider administrative and other matters.

Senator Lise Bacon (Chairman) in the Chair.

[English]

The Chairman: Good morning, honourable senators. Are there any comments with regard to the adoption of the minutes of proceedings of October 2?

Senator Poulin: I so move.

The Chairman: Thank you.

Item no. 2 on our agenda is the fourteenth report of the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedures. We are submitting this report to you for adoption. It is from the Veterans Affairs study on veterans' services and benefits, commemorative activities and the veterans' charter. The report is submitted by our colleague, the Honourable Senator Day.

Are there any questions, honourable senators?

[Translation]

Senator Robichaud: Have we not already allocated some funds to this subcommittee?

The Chairman: We allocated the funds that were requested at the start of the budget process. This is a new request by the subcommittee for professional services and for a trip to Toronto. I believe they have already made one trip (and I cannot speak for Heather) to visit veterans in Saint-Anne-de-Bellevue, and they want to make a similar visit to Sunnybrook in Toronto to get both perspectives.

Senator Robichaud: I so move.

[English]

Senator Robertson: I so move.

The Chairman: I will ask Mr. Bélisle to explain the fifteenth report, which members have in front of them.

Mr. Paul Bélisle, Clerk of the Senate and Clerk of the Committee: Since this report relates to a personnel matter, I would ask that the committee move in camera to hear from the Director of Human Resources and Mr. O'Brien.

The committee continued in camera.
