The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs met this day, at 10:55 a.m., in room 705, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable George J. Furey, Chair, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Beaudoin, Bryden, Buchanan, P.C., Cools, Furey, Joyal, P.C and Nolin.(8)
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament, Gérald Lafrenière.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, September 18, 2003, the committee started its study of Bill C-35, An Act to amend the National Defence Act (remuneration of military judges).
WITNESSES:
From the Department of National Defence:
Lieutenant-Colonel André Dufour, Director of Legislative and Regulatory Services;
Lieutenant-Colonel Michael Gibson, Director of Law, Military Justice Policy and Research;
Major Doug Elderkin, Directorate of Pay Policy Development.
LCol. Dufour made a statement and answered questions.
The Officials from the Department of National Defence submitted a brief to the committee.
At 12:14 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 12:22 p.m., in accordance with rule 92(2)(e), the committee considered its future business in camera.
At 12:45 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
