The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met at 5:50 p.m., this day, in room 705, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Donald H. Oliver, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Fairbairn, P.C., Hubley, Lawson, Mercer and Oliver (6).

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge and Marc Leblanc.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, February 16, 2004, the committee continued its examination of issues related to the development and marketing of value-added agricultural, agri-food and forest products, on the domestic and international markets. (For a complete text of the order of Reference see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 5.)

WITNESSES:

From the Ontario Maple Syrup Producers Association:

Mark Wheeler, Member of the Board of Directors;

Don Dodds, Chair of the Research and Technology Transfer Committee.

The Chair made an opening statement.

Mr. Wheeler made a presentation.

Mr. Wheeler and Mr. Dodds answered questions.

The Chair made a closing statement.

At 7:05 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
