The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day, at 4:04 p.m. in room 705, Victoria Building, the Deputy Chair, the Honourable Marjory LeBreton, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Cook, Cordy, Keon LeBreton, Léger and Morin (7).
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: Howard Chodos.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Friday, February 13, 2004, the committee continued its study on issues arising from, and developments since, the tabling of its final report on the state of the health care system in Canada in October 2002. In particular, the committee shall be authorized to examine issues concerning mental health and mental illness. (For complete text of order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 5).

The Clerk informed the committee of the unavoidable absence of the Chair and Deputy Chair and presided over the election of an Acting Chair.
The Honourable Senator Cordy moved, that the Honourable Senator Morin be the Acting Chair.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
